Premiere for the new audio documentary “Hooligan Express”

On Thursday 28 March, a special hearing-premiere for journalists was held, where “Hooligan Express”, iMEdD’s new audio documentary, based on the long investigation that started after the fatal injury of Michalis Katsouris outside the AEK Athens stadium, was presented for the first time.

On 7 August 2023, the fatal injury of Michalis Katsouris brought the issue of fan violence back to the forefront. On the occasion of this tragic event, Kostas Koukoumakas, Panagiotis Menegos and Giorgos Schinas try to shed light on the unknown world of ultras in Greece and Europe, and to identify key points and events that have changed a phenomenon that appeared in the 1980s, but as the years go by it becomes more and more violent.

Through conversations in Athens, Thessaloniki and Zagreb with lawyers, police officers, investigators, organised fans and relatives of victims of fan violence, the documentary examines hooliganism over the past decades, fan violence and violence with fan characteristics, as well as the relationship between ultras and politics, business interests and organised crime.

Hooligan Express is available only in Greek at lab.imedd.org/hooliganexpress, but also on Spotify and  Apple Podcasts.
