Bridge: Migratory Birds are here to stay

The Network for Children’s Rights and the young journalists’ team of the “Migratory Birds” newspaper are holding an event to present their work on Tuesday, October 15th at 16.30 – 21.00.

In the framework of the newly launched partnership with iMEdD’s new pillar (Bridge), the event will be hosted at iMEdD (Stadiou 3A, Athens) and will be part of the anniversary events for the 15 years since the launch of the Network for Children’s Rights.

This is the third year of the “Migratory Birds” presence and the newspaper has already published 15 issues. At the same time, it is now in the process of moving to the digital era that will further expand the newspaper’s impact.

The program was created on the premise of the cautiousness of the people hosted at the refugee camps to talk to the journalists believing that their story would not be presented in the right way. As a result, 15 young Afghan women and one Greek decided to become the journalists themselves and serve as the voices of the refugees.

Almost three years after the first issue, the path of the “Migratory Birds” is not only journalistic. The team has developed and continues growing with many new members of different nationalities and languages. The initiative of these 15 young women has now reached a multilevel system of informal education and information with many inclusion tools for underserved communities.

The event includes talks on the coverage of the refugee issue by the Media and the role of the “Migratory Birds” in this. It will also present the newspaper’s role as a tool for socialization and inclusion for adolescents and underserved groups. The second part of the program includes a roundtable discussion on the experience of participating in the “Migratory Birds” newspaper and its future perspective.

The program “The Young Journalists” is an initiative by the Network for Children’s Rights and is implemented by the UNHCR, the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation | Office in Greece,  The General Secretariat for Lifelong Learning, Open Society Foundations and the Netherlands Embassy in Greece.
