New Incubator Cycle for Local Journalism

iMEdD is launching a new cycle of its Incubator for Local Journalism and invites journalists from across Greece to apply.
If you work in local media and have an idea for a story or investigation, the new cycle of the program begins on February 9.

The Incubator is designed to support journalistic research and the production of public-interest projects, creating space for stories that start locally and have the potential to grow and reach a wider audience.

It offers a meaningful opportunity for local journalists based outside Athens who wish to explore issues of transparency and accountability and further develop their ideas. Whether a project is still at the idea stage or already at a more advanced phase of implementation, the Incubator provides a comprehensive support framework — from research to production — as well as opportunities to collaborate with specialized professionals, depending on the needs of each project.

Who can apply

  • Journalists (staff, freelancers, or unemployed)
  • Teams of journalists

Teams may consist of journalists from the same city or from different regions, working across different media outlets.

Priority will be given to cross-regional collaborations and teams made up of journalists from different media organizations.

Public-interest topics

Proposals may focus on issues that affect local communities and have a broader social impact, topics connected to everyday life, the functioning of institutions, and citizens’ rights. Stories that originate in one place but shed light on wider systemic issues, as well as stories that highlight innovation or pioneering ideas of local and national interest.

Indicatively, projects may address themes such as local governance and accountability, the environment and natural resource management, the local economy, social policy and inequality, sustainability, public health, and social services in the Greek regions.

Accepted formats include written journalism (longform, article series, etc.), photo essays, audio reporting or podcasts, as well as short journalistic videos (up to 10 minutes).

What the program offers

During the program, participants have access to:

  • Coverage of basic research expenses (travel, accommodation, meals)
  • Production support through iMEdD’s network of collaborators (photographers, sound engineers, videographers, editors, graphic designers)
  • Collaboration with the iMEdD Data Unit, where required (data collection, analysis, and visualization)
  • Mentoring from iMEdD’s international network of collaborators

The duration of the program is three (3) months from the official selection of projects.
