Lecturers: Viktor Koen (MFA Illustration, School of Visual Arts) and Alexandra Zsigmond (The New York Times)
iMEdD (Incubator for Media Education and Development) presents an ” Advanced Editorial Illustration” workshop with Viktor Koen and Alexandra Zsigmond on 11-12 April 2020.
Participants will have the chance to receive expert instruction and assignment critiques, portfolio reviews and sessions on their promotion and professional development.
The cycle consists of 2 x 8hour sessions and is addressed to experienced professionals, young illustrators as well as illustration school seniors who are looking to further their concept development abilities and advance their experience in the international magazine and newspaper industry.
The workshop will be conducted in English and starts on Saturday 11/04 and will be completed on Sunday 12/04 with 12 participants, chosen after consideration of applications by the iMEdD and the lecturers’ team.
The workshop will be held at the iMEdD premises (3A Stadiou street – 6th floor).
The application process began on Tuesday 03 of March and will close on Friday 20 of March at 23:59 pm.

A few words about the lecturers:
Alexandra Zsigmond is a New York-based art director and visual thinker working at the intersection of fine art, illustration and editorial design. From 2010-17 she was an art director for the New York Times’ Opinion section, commissioning original illustration for articles, curating art-driven features, and designing for both print and digital. She has collaborated with a roster of over 1000 artists worldwide and art directed over 4000 editorial illustrations. She is known for greatly expanding the range of visual contributors to the Times, drawing equally from the worlds of contemporary illustration, fine art, animation, and comics. Alexandra is a frequent public speaker and has given talks at universities, conferences, and museums throughout Europe, South America, Canada and the United States. Originally from San Francisco, Alexandra has a background in classical and modern dance and has worked for a variety of notable art organizations, including Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, Cabinet Magazine, Jazz at Lincoln Center and the National Endowment for the Arts. www.alexandrazsigmond.com
Viktor Koen is an award-winning artist, designer and educator. He holds a BFA from the Bezalel Academy of Arts & Design in Jerusalem and an MFA with honors from the School of Visual Arts in NY. He is regularly commissioned by national and international publications, including the NYTimes, Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, Time, Newsweek, Nature, Esquire, National Geographic, Rolling Stone, Wired, ESPN, The Atlantic, Bloomberg, Fortune, Money, Forbes, BusinessWeek, Penguin Random House, Doubleday, Harper Collins, Rizzoli, Houghton Miflin, Tor Books and clients like Atlantic Records, Virgin and the BBC. Frequently featured in books and compilations, his prints are exhibited in galleries and museums around the world and constitute part of private and institutional collections. He is a TED speaker and lectures for academic and professional institutions and conferences while serving on the School of Visual Arts faculty, in the Graduate and Undergraduate levels, and is the founder and Chair Coordinator of the SVA Illustration Residency program.
