Reading the financial statements of corporates

“Financial statements include all sorts of stories that you will never find in press releases”, investigative reporter Sara Silver says. She elaborates on case studies to explain how journalists can end up with important findings by reading the financial statements companies publish and by running through balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements and segment results.

Sara Silver was the instructor of the module “Investigative Reporting” that was part of the Newsroom Essentials Program, which was designed by the Columbia Journalism School and hosted by iMEdD.

This video was produced in the context of that specific workshop, which took place from 31st October to 10th November 2019. The Newsroom Essentials Program was the new Ideas Zone cycle.
